What is Lildog Hotel?

Lildog Hotel is a climate-controlled, self-cleaning dog hotel for short visits. The hotels are located outside shops, shopping centres and places to eat in several countries, making it easier to combine a dog walk with everyday errands.

Here, “hotel” means somewhere your dog can stay for a little while with you nearby. It is designed for short stays, rather than overnight boarding or care throughout a working day.

Your dog gets a private room, and you control the door through the app. Lildog Hotel is approved by Mattilsynet, the Norwegian Food Safety Authority. You can learn more about the service and the app on the Lildog Hotel page.

Somewhere for your dog while you shop

Many dog owners know the dilemma: your dog cannot come into the shop, and you do not want to leave them tied up outside alone. Often, that means taking your dog home first and making a separate trip back.

With a Lildog Hotel outside, you can include a quick shopping stop in your walk. Your dog has a sheltered room with temperature control while you shop. It can also be useful when you need to run an errand at a shopping centre or eat somewhere that does not allow dogs inside.

You can enjoy your walk together, stop at the shop and continue home without needing another shopping trip afterwards.

How to use Lildog Hotel

The easiest way to use Lildog Hotel is through the Lildog Hotel app, available in the App Store and Google Play. The app shows you where the hotels are and which ones are available.

1. Find an available hotel

Open the map in the Lildog Hotel app and find a hotel near the shop or place you are visiting.

2. Let your dog settle in

Open the door through the app. Give your dog time to explore the room and enter at their own pace. Treats and a familiar blanket can help during the first few visits.

3. Lock the door through the app

Once your dog has settled, lock the door through the app. Keep the first visit short and adjust the length of the stay according to your dog’s reaction.

4. Collect your dog after your errand

When you return, open the door through the app and collect your dog. Follow the instructions in the app to end the visit.

Air conditioning on warm days

On warm days, when the temperature is above approximately 21°C, the air conditioning starts automatically when you check your dog in. The temperature drops gradually over 3–10 minutes and settles at around 20–22°C. Meanwhile, the ventilation replaces the air every minute.

Gradual cooling provides a comfortable transition from the outdoor temperature. Your dog gets a break from the heat while you shop, before you continue your walk.

Plan the rest of your walk around the weather too, particularly on pavements and routes with little shade. Our guide to summer walks with dogs and hot pavements has more advice for warmer days.

Underfloor heating in cold weather

Lildog Hotel is also designed for cold days. Half of the floor is heated, allowing your dog to choose between the warmer and cooler parts of the room. The underfloor heating is adapted for dogs and warms gradually when your dog lies on the floor.

This lets your dog find a comfortable resting spot without the entire floor having to be the same temperature.

How well a dog tolerates cold depends on factors including coat, size, age and weather conditions. A wet, windy day can feel different from a dry winter day at the same temperature. Read more about how cold is too cold for dogs and what to watch for during your walk.

Disinfection and cleaning

After each visit, the room is automatically disinfected before the next dog uses it. You do not need to start the disinfection yourself. It forms part of the hotel’s automatic operation, alongside ventilation and temperature control.

In addition to the automatic disinfection, the shop, shopping centre or facility where the hotel is located is responsible for routine cleaning.

First time? Start with a short visit

Every dog is different. Some walk straight in out of curiosity, while others need more time to feel comfortable in a new room. The first visit should therefore be about getting familiar with the hotel, ideally without a full shopping list to get through.

Choose a day when you have plenty of time. Let your dog sniff and explore the entrance, and reward them for going inside. A blanket with a familiar scent can also make the room feel more homely.

  • Bring some treats your dog enjoys.
  • Let your dog explore the room without rushing.
  • Start with a stay of 5–15 minutes, or less if your dog needs it.
  • Adjust the length of later visits according to how comfortable your dog feels.

What matters most is how your dog experiences the stay. If your dog shows clear signs of distress or cannot settle, end the visit and spend more time helping them get used to the hotel.

If your dog already struggles to be apart from you, work on this before using the hotel for an errand. A new setting takes some getting used to, even for a dog that is comfortable being alone at home.

How long can your dog stay at Lildog Hotel?

Lildog recommends a maximum of one hour per stay. Many visits will be considerably shorter: enough time for some shopping, a quick errand or something to eat.

One hour is the recommended upper limit, rather than a target. Always adapt the length of the stay to your dog, their experience with the hotel and how they respond to being there.

How much does Lildog Hotel cost?

Lildog Hotel is free to use in Norway. You use the Lildog Hotel app to find an available hotel and open and lock the door.

Charges apply in other countries. In Sweden and Denmark, the price is approximately one local krone per minute: around 1 SEK in Sweden or 1 DKK in Denmark. Check the app for the current price and terms at the hotel you plan to use.

Where can I find my nearest Lildog Hotel?

You can find the hotels on the map in the Lildog Hotel app. It shows the locations in your area and helps you find an available room when you need one.

Check the map before leaving home. You can then plan your walk to pass a hotel near the shop or place you want to visit. Once your dog is familiar with the hotel, it becomes easier to include these stops in your usual walking route.
